Open Doors Institute was established in 1989 by Lynne Freeman Ph.D.

Dr. Freeman previously headed a West Coast private practice, specializing in anxiety disorders for years. Due to the success of her methods, it became necessary to expand in order to accommodate more patients. Open Doors Institute of California has grown to include a network of licensed therapists in California who apply Dr. Freeman's effective treatment approach, delivering equally successful results. She is the author of Panic Free: Eliminate Panic/Anxiety Attacks without Drugs and Take Control of your Life Updated and Revised. Arden Books. To learn more about Panic Free visit our book Department.

The psychotherapeutic system developed by Dr. Freeman has received much recognition and she is frequently invited to provide training to hospitals, graduate schools, and private practice therapists who wish to learn more about her unique program. In addition, Dr. Freeman appears regularly on both television and radio as an expert in the field of both anxiety and depression.

Research indicates that the most effective approach to treating both anxiety and depression is a combination of cognitive therapies and medication. Open Doors Institute is committed to the philosophy that each patient has the right to choose the type of treatment that feels most comfortable. If a patient wishes to try medication, we will work closely with their own physician as well as with other health care providers with whom we work who are familiar with treating anxiety and depression.

Treatment at Open Doors Institute of California includes cognitive and behavioral therapies, visualization, hypnosis, externalization, and other approaches, provided in face-to-face therapy sessions. These techniques, when combined, provide very effective results over a brief period of time. Telephone sessions utilizing these same techniques are also available in cases of agoraphobia or long distance patients.

DO YOU ONLY SEE PEOPLE WITH ANXIETY OR DEPRESSION?

No. Dr. Freeman is a member of the American Academy of Pain Management. She has extensive experience treating chronic pain and illness. Additionally, our therapists are qualified to practice all types of psychotherapy. Often, our patients recover from symptoms of anxiety and depression and elect to continue therapy to explore other personal issues and enhance their overall well-being.
